Although I mentioned it in the previous “Show Cancellation Fun Times™” post, I figured such news deserves a separate mention (with less bad news and less Battlestar Galactica):
Overpop Music is releasing our debut album, Third Parties, on May 29th! It’ll be available all over the internet on iTunes, Amazon, Amazon, iTunes, Amazon, and everywhere else! The press release that our publicist (!) has prepared is floating around on numerous blogs as we speak, such as this one in NASHVILLE (oooo!):
http://www.musicnewsnashville.com/the-static-sea-to-release-third-parties-on-may-29th
This is all very exciting, but what does Gaius Baltar say about that?
Sorry…
~jimmy
Yes, sad news. We had to cancel our first show next week for Groove on Grove. Our last practice was sounding so incredibly good that Brandon’s hand exploded from the glory of it all.
That’s not true. But Brandon’s hand is, indeed, very broken. Pins and slings and casts and all of that fun stuff. A cylon did it (my girlfriend and I just finished Battlestar Galactic in two weeks. SOOO GOOOOOD). Also not true. Please send him either your regards or a new hand. A cylon hand. The kind that turns into a gun.
The good news is that he is expected to be fully recovered by our May 4th show at Tierny’s Tavern in Montclair. So come and see us then!
THERE’S MORE GOOD NEWS:
Our debut full length LP, Third Parties, is coming out May 29th!

While you were refreshing our website for the hundredth time today, you may have noticed that http://thestaticsea.com now points to a shiny, new, and ultra-convenient place to monitor the many areas of the internet that we are currently infecting. Easily follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else we may be without having to visit that site. You can even send us an email by using the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the list to the left.
If you wish to access the old site right away instead of going to this lovely Flavors.me page, just head over to http://blog.thestaticsea.com. Thanks go to Jenn Schiffer for hooking us up with the account and helping me set it up!

Jenn Schiffer’s “Doppelganger” post that I reblogged made me watch a nearly 50-minute interview with the cast of “Twin Peaks” on the Phil Donahue show. Eric DaRe’s (Leo Johnson) hair is unbelievable. Check it out.
Here’s an annoying video of Brandon and I singing/screaming. See if you can find what song it’s on when the record comes out. Turn your volume down:
Here’s a power-cheese™ love song from our upcoming album called “Wherever Your Arms Go.” Hope you like it!
Tada. That’s the album cover for our… album that will be released when it’s released. We had previously been working with a couple of amazing artists who created some truly great stuff for us, but due to time restrictions, deadlines, and other crap we had to go with two non-artists: ourselves.
We had no idea how to draw something and give the illusion of depth, so we drew everything on separate pieces of paper and made a model:
After that, we scanned all of the separate pieces and brought them into Photoshop. We spent hours on Skype trying to figure out perfect color schemes as well as the positioning of the boat, so we’re pretty much graphic designers now. Now we can play your Bar/Bat/Bark Mitzvah as well as make the invitations!
In other news, we continue to work hard at bringing the band to the stage. We have already been joined by two super-talented people and we’re in the middle of doing auditions for a bass player.
On the drum kit, we have Benjamin Miller; descendant of the famous (and very interesting) half-musician/half-scientist Miller family. Outside of The Static Sea, Ben is one half of another songwriting duo called Interstellar Still Life. He and his partner Jeremy Wingard are currently recording their debut album. Judging from his previous work with bands across the country, it’s going to be great.
Playing keyboards, pushing buttons (in a musical sense), and singing harmonies with us is Beth Bird. Beth’s music/poetry, which can be found on her SoundCloud page, has been featured on the Uke Hunt Podcast and is really lovely and worth checking out and downloading and listening to until you’re dead and even afterwards.
We are very lucky to have such awesome and creative people with us and once this fucking album is out, we look forward to whatever’s next.
Talk to you soon,
~jimmy
1. Remember that album that was supposed to come out in the summer? We lied. BIG TIME. The album is finished. Mixed, mastered (by Mark Miller at Slaughterhouse Studio), and soon to be pressed. It will be released late-January/early-February(?) on Overpop Music.
2. We have a record deal (fhdkahfkcndaskhfkdsahk!!!!). The contract was signed yesterday. Our friends Billy Donohue and Matt Davis of The Thousand Pities started an indie label based out Jersey City, New Jersey called Overpop Music, and they will be releasing our LP. This is very exciting.
3. The album is called Third Parties. Here’s the title track:
Third Parties by The Static Sea
4. Check out some VERY exciting behind the scenes videos at our YouTube page.
More coming soon.
Here are a couple of interviews we did for a cool music blog called Flip The Record, the same site that gave us our first review. The first link is a fairly standard email interview, but the second is a handwritten one where you can see our (my) terrible handwriting and our (my) shocking inability to follow simple directions:
http://fliptherecord.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/the-static-sea-interview/
http://fliptherecord.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/the-static-seas-flip-the-record-survey/
Secondly, Brandon and I would like to thank everyone who downloaded our EP. We are truly grateful and we hope you enjoyed it. Extra special thanks to anyone who purchased it, for you have helped us continue our Kombucha habit when we needed it most. You are the best enablers/fans ever, because that shit is expensive. In all seriousness, thank you!
As mentioned in the post prior to this one, we’re in the process of recording our first LP. We’re hoping to have it finished sometime this summer, but we’ll keep you updated. All I can about it now is that it’s “longer than the EP” and it’s “acceptable.”
Be sure to hit that “Follow” button right at the top of this lovey site (made by this lovely lady) to see the locations of internet that we are currently trying to destroy. Then pick one and follow us, duh.
OK?
